- Cameras made by a chinese-state affiliated company have been installed

- They are equipped with facial recognition and are used in totalitarian
regimes

- The company, Dahua, has a track record of severe cybersecurity
vulnerabilities

"There are other causes for concern: Dahua has a track record of severe
cybersecurity vulnerabilities that have already led to mass hacks of its
cameras, and the company itself admitted last year that there is ‘very
high potential’ for other such incidents."

"More than half of the 32 boroughs in London use surveillance systems
created by Dahua Technology Co Ltd, China’s second-largest surveillance
equipment maker, or by Hikvision, China’s number one manufacturer and
the world’s largest purveyor of video surveillance."

"Clearview AI, was found to have illegally collected and profited from
‘millions’ of images of Britons. Pictures of their faces were taken from
social media profiles and elsewhere on the internet without their
knowledge or permission, and stored on an international database."

Well gee wiz. Who could have imagined that happening when you post a
bazillion selfies all over “social media” that can be seen by the entire
planet?

As if that’s not dumb enough, they post these pics to an account that they
created using their real names and addresses.

🙄

Some people are just stupid.

are face recognition systems racist?
Based on the non-assortment of faces that are used to train the AI, probably.

Seems silly to use them in China, after all they all look the same.

According to reports on their accuracy, due to the way they are trained
they find it easier to identify and follow us palefaces than other
races, so, in that way, yes, they are racist.

Nope, they are not sentient so have no cognitive bias against any race.

However the people who trained them and the set of faces they (the
teachers) used may well have introduced a flaw in the system where it
was easier to identify images with pale skin.
